How to playback AVI files?
AVI is a container file format, which holds video and audio streams. A splitter is necessary to demultiplex the streams, so decoders can decode the streams. Windows should come with a standard AVI splitter already. However, it doesn't implement the most up to date AVI spec, so you may need to install a different AVI splitter. There are several AVI splitters available. One is the Haali Media Splitter, and the other is Gabest's AVI splitter. When installing Gabest's AVI splitter, run regsvr32 on AviSplitter.ax under the Release Unicode folder.
